Quilts on Tv and Newspaper
Well it is never to early to let the people know just what a exciting, amazing exhibit is coming to town. One of the quilts will be on Rogers TV tomorrow morning to let everyone know about the talk at the Central Library on Monday as well as know about the exhibit. The London Free Press our largest newspaper is doing a little story and picture about the exhibit and the talk on Monday in the Saturday issue. Then I hope to see lots of people come out on Monday to see the Quilts and learn more about this unique exhibit coming to London. I do get a little nervous so am very lucky that the Quilts do all the talking. The Kenyan Quilt Guild has the poster on their web site. Have a look.

A Very Special Trunk Show
After the trunk show yesterday at a local retirement home I had to ask myself what just happened and I will try and share this with you. I arrived on a dull winter day to talk to a group at the retirement home and had thought when I looked at the group in the room about 10 mins. before I was to speak that I would just show a few quilts take 30 mins. and be on my way.
The quilts transformed the room. The were looks of delight, awe and joy as I showed quilt after quilt. We talked about the beauty of the quilts the feeling like you where there for the African sunset, the beat of Congo, the Massi wedding.
I shared all the quilts and after 50 mins we were finished showing the quilts and no one moved, we talked for about another 20 mins about what they had just viewed, this room was so alive!! The thanks after this to me and my trunk show sidekicks Beve and Irene was heart warming.
This part was both sad and happy. There is a lady at the home from Sudan who doesn't speak English, and we were told never joins in anything, sat near the back of the trunk show gesturing to Beve to view a couple of the quilts more then once.
The answer to just what happened is the magic of quilts to brighten someone's life.

Dufferin Quilt Guild Trunk show 15
Well another great evening. Dinner before the meeting with a lovely member of the guild which is so nice to eat with someone as I like to arrive early to make sure I'm good to go. First real taste of winter but a good crowd out to share the quilts with. They were worried about me going home after the meeting as twice they offered me a B&B or motel it is only a little over a 2 hour drive which is nothing really but given the snow and wind it was a little longer last night. I know that I will be seeing quite a good number of them in June. The picture is of the lady who took my picture for the guild. Have heard from a bus tour company that will be bringing two buses on the same day, also hear from the Hilton that a couple of bus tour companies have reserved rooms for the Saturday evening.

Just a really nice time!!
Did a talk and showing of the Quilts from Africa today at a local retirement home. I enjoy the interaction that takes place as they discover the art and culture of the quilts that I bring then reflect on how the quilts from the past are also works of art mirroring the times that they were made. One lady has a quilt on her bed that her Mother made from her childhood dresses. They assured me that we would see them in June as after all this was just a taste of great things to come. I didn't take picturs as some of the ladies were shy so I am going to post a picture of one of the Tentmakers of Cairo quilts that will be coming here in June. Thankyou to two of our best supporters for coming with me to display the quilts!! Next Monday is the next trunk show.

What a neat weekend! Took sometime off to go to the the Food and Wine show in London and had a great time with friends. I feel that is it until after June as lots to do. So nice to hear from Rimma, who was the Russian quilter who was in charge of the 2007 exhibit!! Just confirmed that we will indeed have quilts from the Tentmakers of Cairo at this exhibit. I am doing a trunk show at a retirement home tomorrow and this is always nice because people share their quilts with us also. I will post pictures. Need to work this week at getting the information up for everyone. Sorry about the delay they only made it 24 hours in a day and 7 days in a week!!

Number 14: Stoney Creek
No better way to start the New Year of trunk shows then with a guild like I was at last night. Lots of questions, comments and laughs!! I tell a little story about going to book a room late at night and the manager asking if I wanted it for the whole evening so when I was telling them about the great room rate at the Hilton a lady asked if this was for the whole night, what a great line and stopped me from talking for a little bit! I can only hope they had half the fun I did. I was also treated to dinner at the home of a lovely couple. Things do happen in three's : Great food, Great company, Great guild.
